WHAT OUR PATIENTS ARE SAYING

The pelvic floor contains all of the organs, muscles, nerves, vascular, connective tissue, and myofascial structures contained in the pelvis. The muscles of the pelvic floor are critical in controlling bladder and bowel function, sexual function, breathing dynamics, and pregnancy. Together with the abdominal and back muscles, the pelvic floor muscles offer support and stabilization to the spine.

Functions of the Pelvic Floor include:

  • Support

  • Stability

  • Sphincteric function

  • Sexual function

  • Circulation (sump pump)

Common Pelvic Floor Dysfunctions include, but are not limited to:

  • Urinary Incontinence

  • Fecal Incontinence

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse

  • Dyspareunia (painful intercourse)

  • Pain of the pelvis, abdomen, or low back

  • Prenatal and postnatal issues

  • Perineal scar / Episiotomy scar / Cesarean Section scar

  • Diastasis Recti (separation of abdominal muscles)

  • Vulvar pain / Vaginismus

  • Painful menses

  • Pelvic pressure

  • Constipation

  • Painful Bladder Syndrome

  • Difficulty achieving or sustaining erection

Our pelvic floor providers have advanced post graduate training in treating pelvic floor dysfunction and pelvic pain. A thorough evaluation will be performed and a plan of care will be created specific to your needs. Our pelvic floor therapists are trained in internal pelvic floor assessment, though this is not always necessary.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Treatment may include:

  • Therapeutic exercise

  • Manual therapy techniques (internal or external)

  • Breathing mechanics

  • Postural awareness

  • Behavior modification / bladder retraining

  • Functional training

  • Biofeedback training
